A surprise
Yesterday was hectic for me. I worked (I'm still getting used to the whole work thing again, but it's a good thing) then rushed home to take Brownie to the hospital. We had another good visit, with the volunteer office staff telling me once again that she is their favorite therapy dog. I can't hear that often enough. As far as I know, they may tell everyone that, but I don't care. I love Brownie, and I like it when other people love her.
We visited the ICU, mostly the family members. People are so appreciative of my girl's time and friendly nature. One kid was in there for I don't know what, and his parents and significant other were visiting. They enjoyed Brownie a great deal, smiling and patting her. The kid reached his hand off the bed a couple of times to get a little sniff, and that pleased him. It just takes a few minutes of my and Brownie's time, and people are so much happier than they were before.
On to the surprise. Brownie doesn't like everyone. She is subtle, but the woman Brownie snubbed noticed. The patient told me about her rapport with all animals, but she didn't win over Brownie. Brownie would sniff her hand, but she wasn't her normal friendly outgoing self. It doesn't happen often, and the only consequence is that the patient doesn't get one of her sweet smiles and loving attention, but it does happen.
One gentleman actually pulled Brownie's lip back and checked her teeth. Brownie jumped right off her chair and made for the door. Of course, she's always on leash in the hospital. He wasn't an animal professional or anything like that, he just was a dog lover. He wanted to make sure her dental hygiene was good. People are funny.
